The PCU Student Credit Union in Oakdale, MN is an innovative approach in business education, teaching students the basic principles and practices of the Financial Services Industry. The in-school credit union branch will operate fully at Tartan High School and will provide the opportunity for students and teachers to conduct a number of financial transactions from opening accounts, accepting deposits, and taking loan applications. A PCU-owned ATM will be on site for students and teachers to use at no charge if they are members of PCU.
The students who work in the PCU Student Credit Union will develop a deeper understanding of how a financial institution operates. This program offers students an opportunity to learn, participate, and work with confidence alongside credit union professionals while learning specific job skills. This approach is intended to fuel their passion for learning while gaining valuable, real life experience in school that could possibly lead to a future career in the finance, credit union, or bank industry.
In addition, all students will have an opportunity to open accounts and learn first-hand about the benefits of saving for future goals, budgeting and establishing a strong credit history before they leave high school.
