Savings & Savers CDs

You may already have a standard Savings account, but have you considered a Reserve Savings or Savers CD?

Reserve Savings = the "You Name It" Savings Account
A Reserve Savings is a great way to save for a specific purchase – such as prom, a new computer or vacation. Name your savings account whatever you wish and have a set amount of money transferred to it weekly or monthly.

PCU Savers Certificate of Deposit (CDs)
Designed for students, PCU’s Savers CDs are unique because they require just $100 to open and you can add money to them anytime (unlike traditions CDs).

Savers CDs make so much 'cents'
CDs earn more interest than standard savings accounts because you have to keep your money in them for a set period of time – between 6 - 60 months. Withdrawing the funds early may incur a penalty, helping you stay disciplined in your savings. Check out current rates on Saver CDs

Annual Honor Roll Bonus
Stay on top of your grades and get paid! PCU will add $10 to your Savings or Savers CD if you make the Honor Roll any time during the school year. (Limit one $10 bonus per calendar year)

Start small
It's important to start off on the right foot when it comes to borrowing money to build a solid credit history. So start small. PCU can finance small loans (i.e. new computer, class trip, instrument etc) before working your way up to a larger purchase like a new car.

Find a co-signer
Your best odds for getting your first loan is to find a trustworthy co-signer who already has established credit history. READ: Mom or dad are usually a good place to start. Both names would be on the loan documents.

What does that mean?
Both you and your co-signer are responsible for the loan repayment. It's important to make timely payments on the loan to establish and KEEP good credit history, meaning, if you don't pay it will negatively impact BOTH signers' credit.

Share Secured Loan

Extra cash savings? Try a secured loan to build credit history
If you've saved some cash in your account, you can borrow money from the credit union while securing your savings funds as a loan. This type of loan is a good option if you can't find a co-signer. You can borrow a lump sum of money for your loan purpose (new computer, vacation, car etc.) equal to the amount of cash in your savings. Then, make payments back to the credit union until the loan is paid in full.

During the loan repayment period your secured funds are not available to use, but you still earn interest. Once the loan is paid, your savings funds are fully available.
